The Landslide of Valtrena
The place where life is roaring today was an empty square overgrown by trees and grass. The expeditions of warriors paid for by wealthy merchants came here. Risking their lives, they tried to snatch even the little treasure in the form of Gems from the Mine. According to the stories, few have managed to do so. There was a Knight whose name had been forgotten. He returned from an expedition with Kryxit as big as a barrel of beer. He brought the gem on a carriage surrounded by a group of other knights protecting the transport. The treasure was bought by a man who founded the city we now call Kryxivia City. The purchased Kryxit rests in its heart, the fountain in the main square.
The whole town was built with the idea of its primary purpose — the Mine. Its entrance is on the Mountain’s edge, protecting the city’s western part. Its summit is not the highest in the area, but its circumference is impressive. As a result, the Mine not only has high corridors but also hides entire huge rooms that are used for various purposes. The passages are carved out of solid rock, seemingly safe and durable, but are actually camouflage for The Landslide of Valtrena. It was conceived from a sharp, broken piece of rock that slipped off the top of the Mountain. Brought to life by magic and placed among the stones of the Mine by forgotten deities. She mentioned in a short excerpt from another book devoted to the Mine:
“… we reached the entrance, which was covered with large boulders. It took us many hours to even move one of them. I wanted to step back, but others insisted that there might be a treasure behind these stones. I gave in to my greed and went to work. We pried at the rocks, pushing them one by one, and when we shifted the largest of them, it turned into a significant stony human-like figure. He wiped out most of us in one blow. The rest started to run away. A few of us escaped outside. One day we will come back to get revenge…”
The Sage also found another text excerpt about The Landslide of Valtrena in one of the books devoted mainly to the history of the place called Valterna. As you can guess, that’s where the name of the monster comes from.
“… It was a small village built decades ago on the side of a mountain that casts a shadow over today’s Kryxivia City. It was a pastoral village living on goat meat, milk, and cheese. They led a long and quiet life, unknowingly drawing the energy of the Kryxites…”
According to the stories found in the book, people began to eagerly flock to the vicinity of the Mountain. At this time, the slope on which Valterna lay collapsed, burying dozens of people alive and covering massive doors. To get back to the Mine, people had to shift tons of sharp-edged stones that resemble the skin of The Landslide Of Valtrena.
